The bottom pillar of the bridge (59) on the Mawlamyine-Yangon railway line in Bilin Township was damaged by a mine, which shattered about two and a half feet.

Today (April 5), at about 7 am, the KNLA and PDF jointly detonated a locally made mine on the 40-foot-long steel frame bridge (59) between mileposts (107/9) and (107/10) on the Mawlamyine-Yangon railway line, about 11,000 meters northwest of Bilin township, Mon State, causing the bottom pillar of the bridge to shatter about two and a half feet, and the damage did not affect the passage of trains, according to a statement from the National Security Council.

The National Security Council (NSC) press release stated that during the period of rapid relief and rehabilitation work due to the earthquake, such explosives in non-military areas have further alarmed the public, made travel difficult, affected the flow of goods, and disrupted stability.

The Tatmadaw has also announced a temporary ceasefire period to speed up relief and rehabilitation work due to the earthquake in the country.
