Assam Industries Minister Chandramohan Pewari has said that a pipeline will be built between Myanmar and India to transport petroleum products from northeastern India.

IIM Kolkata will help the Assam government in obtaining geographical indications. Pewari said that two refineries, Numaligarh Refinery and Bongaigaon Refinery, have proposed to export Indian petroleum products to Myanmar. “GAIL India has started construction of the connection from Baruni in Bihar to Guwahati in Assam. The project will cost Rs 60,000 crore,” he said.

The Industries Minister said, “While the state government is working on setting up a steel and iron plant with an investment of Rs 9,000 crore, it is planning to set up a Pharma Park in Sipahar, a Textile Park and an MSME Park in Jagirud. Pepsi Co India is setting up a unit in Rampur with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore. A multi-functional logistics centre is also being set up in Georgios Gopar, which is expected to connect the Northeast and Southeast Asian countries. The project will cost Rs 6,000 crore.”
