Construction on the 117-story Goldin Finance 117 skyscraper in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin has resumed after nearly 10 years of halt, state media reported. The 1,959-foot-tall building, which was halted in 2015 due to the financial crisis, is now scheduled to be completed in 2027.
Built on mega columns to withstand wind and earthquakes, the top floor will house a swimming pool and observation deck. According to Hong Kong architecture firm P&T Group, the upper floors will house offices and a five-star hotel.
Construction has been halted since the 2015 Chinese stock market crash. The building, also known as China 117, was built by Hong Kong-based real estate company Goldin Properties Holdings, whose founder, Feng Shui, was once one of Hong Kong’s richest businessmen but closed down in 2015 due to the financial crisis. The building’s name will now be replaced by the name of its former company, according to the permit to resume construction.
Despite the strict regulations, China is the world’s largest producer of skyscrapers. Of the 133 skyscrapers 200 meters or taller completed worldwide last year, 91 were in China.
The two tallest buildings in China are the Shanghai Tower and the Shenzhen Financial Center, and China 117 will be the third tallest in China and the sixth tallest in the world when completed.
