A fire broke out in the Tampawaddy Ward of Mandalay at around 11:00 AM on May 5, 2025.

The Myanmar Fire Department has received information that the fire broke out when a 48 kg gas cylinder was filled from a large 15-foot x 15-foot, ground-floor, zinc-roofed, zinc-roofed, brick-floored gas shop on 84th Street, Pati Street, Tampawaddy Ward, Chanmyathasi Township, when the pressure was higher than required when filling a portable gas cylinder from a large 48 kg gas cylinder.

The fire destroyed 4 large 15-foot × 15-foot ground-floor, zinc-roofed, zinc-roofed, brick-floored, 20-foot × 30-foot two-story building, 4 (48) kg gas cylinders, and the upper floor of the 20-foot × 30-foot building.

10 fire engines, 5 water tankers, Two fire engines, 30 firefighters, and 70 backup firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire. Approximately 25,000 gallons of water, 2,000 gallons of firefighting water were used to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control at 11:24 a.m. and completely extinguished at 11:32 a.m.

A 35-year-old man suffered burns to his face, both arms, both legs, and buttocks (critical), a 28-year-old man suffered burns to his face, both arms, both legs, and buttocks (critical), a 41-year-old woman suffered minor burns to both legs and both arms (not critical), and a 27-year-old man (corporal) from Thanlyinhmao Mountain Fire Station suffered minor burns to his face and right finger (not critical), according to the Myanmar Fire Department.

A case has been opened against a 35-year-old man from Police Station No. 10 in connection with the fire incident (P-28/2025) under Section (285).
