Fans of One Direction member Liam Payne laid a memorial bench at the British Cemetery in Buenos Aires on March 16 in memory of the late singer, who died in October.
Liam fell to his death from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16 last year, while he was in Argentina to support fellow bandmate Niall Horan.
Liam’s funeral was held in Amersham, a small town in Buckinghamshire, northwest of London, and was attended by family, friends and the entire One Direction band.
Memorial benches are often set up in parks and public spaces in Britain to pay tribute to loved ones who have passed away. The bench in memory of Liam is inscribed with lyrics from the One Direction song History.
Liam’s body was laid to rest at the British Museum before being returned to London for burial. Argentine fans set up a red mailbox to send letters to Liam’s family.
Liam has spoken out about his struggles with mental health and alcoholism during his lifetime. He had a son with his girlfriend, Sharon Cuneta, from the pop girl group Girls Aloud.
After announcing their break-up in 2016, the members of One Direction have each released solo albums, and all five of their albums have since returned to the UK top 40. In Liam’s absence, One Direction did not perform at the Brit Awards.
